PRINT SERVERS

As the name suggests, Print Servers manage print requests from computers on your office network and make printer queuing information available to staff and network administrators. A print server can be a software application, network device or dedicated computer. Large enterprises traditionally appoint a dedicated computer to act as a Print Server that will manage hundreds of printers.

In a smaller organisation, a network device, the size of a small switch, is often used. These dedicated devices perform the same function as a computer print server, just on a smaller, far more cost effective scale. The print server sits between the network and your office printers to manage print requests. NETGEAR provides these devices as independent units or you can choose a VPN Firewall that has a built in print server. You can choose between connecting your Printer to the Print Server device via parallel port(s) or USB.
